One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest - Penguin
Here is my final submission for the Penguin 2012 Competition. I have used disjointed geometric shapes mirrored on front and back, to represent the main character McMurphy, as he himself is a bit crazy and has a bad side as well as a good side. I have used the colour blue as it is very clinical to go with the setting of the book and the colour opposite orange, to compliment each other.
Screen Printing
Friday just gone, I had a great day in the print room. I have been experimenting with colour and printing posters for my personal pathway. Everything went smoothly and screen printing is something I would definitely like to do more often!
Experimenting with colour interaction for my personal pathway project. Overlapping primary colours to create Secondary colours which form an alphabet. I will be taking this artwork into the print room and experimenting with screen prints.
My visit to NYC 2012
I had an amazing time in New York so I thought I would share a few snap shots of what I got up to. Whilst in NYC myself and the rest of my group got the opportunity to visit 3 design studios which was very inspiring and interesting to see. We visited Wallace Church, Wolff Olins and BBH. I was very much looking forward to see everyone at Wallace Church again, as this is where I did my internship for 4 weeks last year, it was lovely seeing everybody. The work that was shown to us by all 3 design studios was amazing and a great insight of what to expect when working in the design industry.
Myself, Michaela Mckone and Layla White got the chance to visit Milton Glaser aswel, this was an amazing experience and great opportunity. The Milton Glaser visit is normal on our trip itinery but this year he wasn’t, so Michaela brought it on her self to send a quick email to try and get us the chance to see him and ask him a few questions. Milton obviously agreed and we organised a date and time. :)
There was one thing that I kept thinking about after visiting all these different design agencies. It is a campaign a previous intern did at BBH, it was a great cause and I would love to share the link with everyone. Again I did all the tourist attractions, Rockefeller, Times Square, Ground Zero, 9/11 Memorial (this was lovely to see), Brooklyn Bridge and so on.
New York never gets boring… I love it! :)

Odd’s Day
Here is my final submission for the ISTD competition 2012. To interpret the theme ‘what happened on this day’ after numerous design ideas, I went to a well-known betting establishment and recorded the punters conversations. This was a very odd day for me (hence the reason for the title and the play on writing odds) as this is not my normal daily routine, I had to blend into the background by putting the odd bet on here and there and reading a newspaper. I have been very experimental with typography and produced a very interesting read …

D&AD - Pentagram - Typographic Circle
Here is my final D&AD outcome. I have designed a series of books for the Typographic Circle. The brief was to choose three designers that had done talks for the committee and produce a series of limited edition books purely typographical.
I have used a five colour - colour palette across the series but only used three colours within each book and I have used the same font family throughout - ’Caslon’. I have experimented with folds and came across this beautiful map fold which is an added extra to the ‘limited edition’ books.
I have put all three books together physically but I have also photographed them and made the images into a moving image. This is so you are able to see the full effect of the folds and how they work when opening and closing.
